The “Well Worn Path” is a way to understand growing in Christ. This is a clear pathway to identify where we are, and what our next step is in our relationship with Jesus.

"He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”  Psalm 23:3

Follow Jesus

This first stage of the journey, following Jesus, is such an exciting, life giving part of our spiritual walk.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

  • Regularly gathering with others who are following Jesus makes this journey easier. We can worship and learn together.

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts” Acts 2:46

  • You were created to have a personal relationship with God. Learn how to move forward here.

”For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

  • Jesus said to believe and be baptized. Water baptism is an important step in our faith journey as we express our personal decision publicly. We have baptism services throughout the year. To be baptized click here.

“Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.” Colossians 2:12

  • The Lord's Supper, made up of bread and the fruit of the vine, symbolizes our partaking in the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4). It serves as a remembrance of his suffering and death (1 Corinthians 11:26) and a sign of His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26). This practice is commanded for all believers “until He comes again”. We celebrate this ordnance every week during our Sunday morning worship service.

Form Your Foundation

After you being you walk with Jesus, it is important to get a solid foundation built in our life. This step anchors us in our relationship with God and what we believe.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25

  • Scripture teaches that faith grows as we hear the Word of God. We encourage everyone to make Bible reading a regular part of your life. Click on the link to engage in our reading plan with us.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16

  • Prayer is simply talking with God. It is a wonderful way to know God more and hear His voice.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6

  • A great place to start is our Summit Growth Track.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

  • The best way to go from attending Highland to feeling a part of Highland is to begin serving. There are opportunities for every age, skill, or availability. If you haven’t already joined us for Summit Growth Track, that is a great way to begin your journey.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Peter 4:10-11

Love & Obey God

Following Jesus and forming a foundation is important, but connecting closely with God in love and obedience is the heart of Christianity. As you take this step you will find a real love for God come alive in your heart and a change in habits and behavior.

“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” John 14:21

  • Worship, singing song of praise to God, is a wonderful way to express of love to Him. Every Sunday we sing together. We believe in life-filled honest worship to the Lord.

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father” John 4:23a

  • Giving of ourselves is an act of both love and obedience to God. God calls us to give 10% of our income to Him. Also to give to those in need. You can learn more and set up your giving here: highlandag.org/give

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce.” Proverbs 3:9

  • The way we live our lives is a reflection on our love of Jesus. He sets some clear standards that we want to pursue. Living like Jesus helps us know Him more and find the life-change He has planned for us.

“Whoever says he abides in Him (Jesus) ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” 1 John 2:6

  • God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit when we come to Him. He also want to fill us to overflowing with the Holy Spirit. This is evident through supernatural gifts, including speaking in tongues.

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below… And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Acts 2:17-21

Grow Godly Friendships

We were never meant to walk this walk alone. God has given us other believers to enjoy life with and cause us to grow in our faith.

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:46-47

  • Connecting with other followers of Jesus Christ is one the great joys and strengths of following Jesus. Fellowship helps us know we are connected, and a bigger view of our faith and become more like Christ.

“(They met) day after day, in the Temple courts and from house to house.” Acts 5:42

  • We believe that our faith was meant to be lived out together. Our groups enable people to grow in their relationship with God and others. We offer on-site group opportunities as well as off-site small groups throughout the year. You can discover our small groups at highlandag.org/groups

“I am giving a new commandment to you now – love each other just as much as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13: 34-35 LB

  • We are created to care for and encourage one another. We are more whole people when we share who we are with others. We can share through serving, giving and using our talents to bless the lives of others.

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16

Lead Others

Christ gave everything for us so we could become close to Him, but also so we could lead others to Him.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

  • We have been given an incredible gift in the salvation and relationship Jesus has given us. His sacrifice on the cross gives us hope and eternal life. We want to share this hope in an open and honoring way.

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’ He said, ‘Go, and tell this people...’” Isaiah 6:8-9

  • All of us were created by God to make a difference in the life of another person. We believe that your life will never make sense until you find, develop, and fulfill the purpose God has for you.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

  • As mature Christians we are meant to not just serve others but to lead them closer to Jesus and help equip others in their lives and ministry. We are meant to invest in the lives of those around us in a selfless and Christ honoring way.

“God gave...some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God’s people for works of ministry, so that the body of Christ may be built up…” Ephesians 4:11-12
